The Journey
The Appalachian Joiner is the work of Tim Beierle in a small furniture shop nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Each piece is built individually using time-honored joinery techniques.
My journey into furniture making began after discovering a set of antique hand tools in my grandparents’ basement. With those simple tools, I started learning traditional joinery methods used in solid wood furniture such as dovetails and mortise-and-tenon joinery. As a self-taught maker, I’ve developed my skills through books, magazines, online resources, and, most importantly, hands-on practice. What started as curiosity has grown into a deep passion for crafting heirloom-quality furniture meant to be used, appreciated, and passed down for generations.
In a world where so much has become disposable, I aim to create thoughtful, well-crafted pieces that reflect care, skill, and lasting design, furniture built to endure.
